Talks @ VSIT

Prof. S. Sadagopan, Director, IIIT Bangalore visits VIPS

It was a historic moment for VIPS as Prof. S. Sadagopan, Director of IIIT Bangalore and one of the most prominent thought leaders in the Indian IT revolution, paid a visit to the campus and interacted with the students. He is a Fulbright Fellow, Member of the ACM, IEEE – Computer Society and AIS, and has played a key role in policy making, education, and research in Information Technology. Prof. Sadagpoan talked about India and Information Technology, the scope and employability.

Dr. Sadagopan said that over time, Information Technology has come to dominate all aspects of human life. This has been enabled because of gradual unification of diverse technologies, for example imaging and printing, which led to the modern multi-functional printing replacing the fax machines. He pointed towards areas such as bio-informatics, banking, etc., which could not have been possible without Information Technology. The new wave of change is already here, he said, with computing merging with communication.

Dr. Sadagopan said that today the IT sector contributes to 7% of the GDP, and has generated about 3.5 million jobs, more than any other sector and he expects this to continue, as the IT industry is still not mature and should stabilize around 10 million jobs. However, he cautioned that the pace of hiring will not be as fast as in the early days. Barring that, he said he sees Information Technology uniquely positioned to create new jobs and wealth for the country.

After this, Dr. Sadagopan interacted with the students, sharing his experience and insight about the larger issues related to Information Technology.

SPECIAL SESSIONS ON PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

It is rightly said that ‘Personality is not inherited rather it is developed’. In the present scenerio it is the need to the hour to bring out one’s abilities and powers for making himself aware of his inner self and become more confident to face the cut-throat competiiton in the outside world. Undoubtedly, after the college education, success doesn’t solely depend on the degree or certificate achieved but on the combination of studies and quality of personality both. Realizing this the personality development classes and lectures were conducted for the enhancement and grooming of VSIT students’ outer and inner self to bring about a positive change to their lives. Sessions focussed on how to boost and enhance one’s confidence, improve communication and language speaking abilities, expand the boundaries of thinking and knowledge, develop new hobbies or skills, adding style and elegance to the personality, looks, talks and walks, adopt fine etiquettes and manners and overall knitting of oneself with positivity, vigor, liveliness and peace.
